| About Us |
Film societies specialise in screening quality films from around the world: documentaries, features, short films, classics, director retrospectives and national cinema seasons. We showcase selected New Zealand films every year, with the support of the New Zealand Film Commission. The annual Film Society season aims to take you further – to extend your understanding of film and film culture around the world and here at home. Film society magazines feature international and local film comment and criticism, and include a diverse range of views and beliefs. Programming services are funded by members' subscriptions and the 2010 Season is presented with financial assistance from the New Zealand Film Commission. In 2010 we acknowledge the generous support of the National Film Board of Canada, the Embassy of France and the Goethe-Institut, Wellington. Film Society membership is open to everyone. We operate on an annual subscription basis because (with just a few exceptions) we have non-commercial screening rights, and must screen to members only. All film societies are run by committees of volunteers from the general membership. The Auckland Film Society committee is elected at our AGM in April each year. Current committee members are Mark Andersen, Simon Erceg, Jessica Fowler, Andrew Lockett, Natasha Loh, Jane McKenzie, Ruth Patterson, Dallas Pickering, Jonathan Smith and Marjorie Sprecher
